About Stephanie

Stephanie Mervine is an abstract artist, educator, and arts administrator living in Austin, TX. Her abstract works are focused on the concept of deconstructing and reconstructing objects. Referencing objects and memory she composes works layered with patterns featuring bold contrasting colors. These paintings are distilled reminders of fragmented objects and landscapes - an echo or souvenir of the original experience. By dismantling the familiar and reassembling it, she challenges viewers to reconsider their perception of reality and embrace a more abstract and dream-like interpretation. Her new works have been taking on a surrealist tone exploring the idea of perception and the unconscious mind playing a role in how we experience our surroundings.

Stephanie has worked extensively in the arts community in Washington, DC, and in Austin, TX. Her work is part of the permanent collection of art at St. Mary's College of MD where she received her BA in Fine Art. She has a love for nurturing and strengthening the arts through community building. She has shown in and curated exhibitions nationally and served on the steering committee and Board of Artomatic in Washington, DC. She was a founding member of Up Collective in Austin and is currently board President at Bolm Arts Collective.
